HOW TO PREVENT LICE WITH PRACTICAL HAIRSTYLES

If you’re a parent whose child has had head lice in the past, or if you’ve been alerted about head lice in your child’s school, you may be wondering how to prevent an infestation.

The most common way lice spreads is head-to-head contact. Long flowing hair allows lice to transfer easily while moving from one head to the next. If your child has long hair we recommend keeping it tied up. Especially while at school, sleepovers, parties and camps.

The best way to avoid lice is to choose a hairstyle that keeps the hair back and protected. You can reduce the risk of infestation with these simple styles.

Messy Bun

Flip your hair upside down and pull your hair into a loose ponytail. Don’t worry about it being perfect, it is supposed to be a bit messy! Twist your hair and spin it around the base of the ponytail wrapping it below the bun. Don’t forget to leave the tail out at the end. Secure the bun with hair ties, bobby pins and hairspray.

Ballerina Bun

Pull the hair back in a ponytail using a comb or brush to remove any bumps. Twist the ponytail into a tight rope and tightly wind the hair around the ponytail holder. Fasten the hair with bobby pins until it feels secure and tight.

Space Buns

Part the hair straight down the middle and make sure its tangle free. Create two high pigtails and secure them with hair ties. Twist the pigtail into a tight rope and wrap the rope around the base of the pigtail. Tuck the end of the hair under the bun and secure it with a hair tie or bobby pins.

Braids

Braids are an excellent choice for preventing head lice. Any braid type that keeps the hair pulled back and contained can reduce the risk of infestation.
